Jesus in the Fast Lane: My top 5 Christian Podcasts

Hey, y’all!

Do you find yourself frustrated on the drive to work everyday? Or just in general with life? Are you a podcast listener, or would like to give them a try? Then you’re in luck!

Honestly, I’m a natural realist / borderline pessimist, so I am pretty self-aware in the fact that I need some “daily bread” whether that is in the form of reading the word, listening to the word, or even listening ABOUT the word. That’s where podcasts come in handy. Now, I’m not going to lie and say that I listen to ONLY Christian podcasts - Bobby Bones will be playing in my car about 90% of the time, however, I am a loyal listener to the following podcasts because they have taught me about God and have helped me with my faith. I really hope you give them a shot, especially if you are like me and could use encouragement and reminders of who you are and who you belong to.

1. Whether you are a novice or a pro at reading the bible, I HIGHLY recommend listening to The Bible Recap by Tara Leigh Coble. This is a year long podcast that walks you through a chronological study of the bible. I have done it once and am working on my second round. It’s designed to listen to the podcast after each daily reading that is laid out through the Bible app. Tara Leigh does a fantastic job “recapping” what you have read and brings to light many things in the bible you have missed before.

2. Do you ever read the Bible and feel that it was written so long ago that it’s hard to relate to what is happening and wish someone could put a modern day spin on the stories and characters? That’s exactly what The Bible Binge hosts, Knox McCoy and Jamie Golden (also hosts to The Popcast) do for their listeners. Honestly, when I first heard about this podcast, it made me nervous that it would come across as disrespectful, and I’m happy to report it does not. They review bible stories and do character studies by incorporating today’s culture to help make the stories relevant for listeners. I highly recommend it!

3. I don’t know about you, but I love having theological discussions with my girlfriends, but, due to adulthood, they are far and few between. Luckily, I’m a loyal listener to The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey. My cousin introduced me to this podcast about 8 year ago and I’ve been a weekly listener ever since. If you’re a reader, she often has Christian authors on to talk about their most recent work. She also doesn’t shy away from hard conversations, and honestly, due to the variety of guests she has, you’ll be exposed to different perspectives that are very eye opening and refreshing. Just like the title of the show, you feel like you’re having coffee with a friend.

4. Anyone else here a 90’s kid and a hardcore fan of DJ Tanner? If so, then you’ll definitely want to try Candance Cameron Bure, The Podcast that just hit the podcast world right before Christmas of 2022. Aaaand, guess who her first mini-series co-host was? None other than Tara Leigh Coble from The Bible Recap. They did a mini-series on the role of the Holy Spirit and it was SO GOOD! I cannot wait to see what Candace has in store for her listeners in the future.

5. Real talk - some weeks, or ahem…months, are hard to get to church. On that note, my last recommendation is your local church’s podcast… If you ever miss a message at your local church, you may check to see if your campus offers podcast streaming so you can keep up with the series being taught. It’s also a really good way to check out a local church to see if you vibe with their teachings before diving in for an in-person test run. Honestly, since I became a mom, it’s been extremely hard for me to be in that pew consistently every Sunday, so I’m extremely grateful this is an option.

Do you already have a favorite faith based podcast? Let me know! I’m always looking and trying out new shows for my weekly rotation. If you try one of these, let me know how you life it.

-Be blessed, my friends!
