Get to Know Me with 10 Unique Ice Breaker Questions.

Hey, y’all!

I figured you’ve been here for a minute and may want to get to know me a little bit better. I’m sure you have figured out that I’m a wifey/mama working in education, am always working on health and wellness, and am kind of a little conservative hippie at heart.

I thought it would be fun to answer some of your not-so-typical get to know you questions! These questions could be used at a party or small get together to better get to know some new people!

1. What's the most unusual food you've ever tried, and what did you think of it?

Iguana. I was on a mission trip in Belize and the boys that were housed where we were staying found an Iguana and cooked it for the missionaries. It tasted like chicken barbeque. Not bad, but not something that I would really want to eat again.

2. If you could instantly master any musical instrument, which one would you choose and why?

The guitar. There is something very calming about chilling out and hearing the strum of a guitar. Maybe because my dad played his guitar in the house while I was growing up.

3. What's a place you've always wanted to visit, and what draws you to that destination?

Scotland. I’m a pretty big Outlander fan (only the STARZ series, I never got into the books…yet) and Jamie and Claire’s romance takes place in bonnie Scotland. I was fortunate enough to actually take that trip last year and it was everything I had dreamed of and more. I’ll have to write a blog post on my experience. I just loved it all. The land is breathtaking - literally something out a fairy book. The history is rich. I would walk inside the castles that have been there hundreds of years in awe, trying to will my spirit back to a time so I could get a glimpse of the original dwellers living their day to day lives. I even have ancestral heritage to Scotland. I remember telling my husband, “it feels like the land is calling me” in the same way that Moana feels called to the Ocean.

Here I am when all of my Scotland dreams came true. I was able to visit Midhope Castle, also known as Lallybrach from Outlander.

4. If you could have any superpower for a day, what would you do with it?

Teleportation. Imagine being able to blink your eyes and be anywhere in the world. You could visit so many people and places on the daily and not be constrained by travel or time.

5. What's the most memorable or interesting job you've ever had, even if it was just a short-term gig?

Gosh, I’ve had so many jobs it seems. My parents instilled a good work ethic in myself and my sister. My dad even set up a “curb-numbers” gig when I was in elementary school, my sister being in high school. We literally went door to door in all the neighborhoods in town and surrounding towns and got paid to paint address numbers on the curb. It showed us what hard work can do and we were able to buy our own school clothes that year and the next few years while doing the work.

6. If you could time travel to any era in history for a week, where and when would you go?

Take me back to the 60s so I can live my flower-child, Jannis Joplin’ singing, hippie days in full glory with a trip to Woodstock while I live in my VW camper van.

7. What's a hobby or skill you've always wanted to learn, but haven't had the chance to pursue yet?

Blogging. I know the question is “but haven’t had the chance to pursue yet” but blogging is something I’ve wanted to try for a decade and just couldn’t get it launched for whatever reason here or there. I’m glad I have started now though!

8. If your life was a movie, what would the title be, and who would play you in the film?

“Making Peace with Mundane,” and I have heard that when Jennifer Lawrence was in the Hunger Games that we look a lot alike…I’ve heard the same thing about the actress that plays young Tully, Alissa Svokbye, on Firefly Lane…what do you think??

Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen

Alissa Skovbye as Tully Hart

9. What's your go-to karaoke song, and do you have any signature dance moves to go with it?

Well….I don’t know that I can list them all because it was back before my mommin’ days and the songs are really not that appropriate anymore. The tamest song would be Baby Got Back and it’s meant to be ironic because I have NO back.

10. If you could swap lives with any fictional character for a day, who would it be and why?

Claire from Outlander. Not because of the obvious Jamie Fraser, but because how cool would it be to experience two lives - one in the modern world and one in the 18th century when the Scottish castles were bustling. I can’t think of a better experience.

These questions should spark some interesting conversations and help you get to know the person better in a fun and lighthearted way. I created a cute PDF for you to download if you want to keep these questions handy for your next get together.

Be blessed my friends!
